How I’ve helped others

Here are some samples of past projects with an overview of the work performed.

Clover by 4-H

Services: User Testing

CLOVER is an online learning platform created by 4-H, the largest non-profit youth organisation in the U.S. Its goal is to bridge the gap between traditional in-person learning at 4-H clubs and the digital world. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the demand for online education skyrocketed, prompting 4-H to create CLOVER as a platform that serves its young learners online. To ensure its success, I collaborated with Hi Mum! Said Dad to conduct user testing with children, parents, and 4-H educators.

I analysed the user testing results and found the key themes that showed what users liked and didn't like about the website. I presented the client with recommendations on how to fix the problems and  capitalise on the successful parts of the website.

With CLOVER, 4-H is poised to transform youth education by embracing technology. This forward-thinking initiative helps children learn and grow by giving them a platform with them in mind. It lets them explore and discover things in a way that suits them best.

VPAR Golf

Services: Product Discovery, User Testing, and Expert Audit

VPAR Golf is the world's #1 Golf App. Serving a range of users from amateurs and pros to Event Managers, the app's  usability is crucial for success. Recognising the potential for improvement, I was brought on board to delve deep into the user experience.

The research focused mainly on Club Professionals and VPAR Event Managers.  While the expert audit provided valuable insights, the user testing clearly showed the many complex challenges and opportunities. In a meticulous analysis of feedback, clear patterns emerged—some users loved certain features, while others found navigation difficult, and confusion was a common issue.

Our testing approach centred on vital tasks like 'managing tournaments' but also dived into each group's unique needs.  This allowed us to gain deep insights into their behaviours, objectives, and challenges.

From this rich feedback, I distilled complex findings into actionable recommendations, which VPAR adopted, elevating the app's usability. As a result, user engagement increased, and the team successfully bridged the gap in understanding among their diverse user base.

Working with VPAR underscored the key role of user feedback in enhancing sports digital platforms. It emphasised the importance of understanding different user perspectives, making the app more than just a functional tool but a genuine delight for golfers of all kinds.

I hired Michael when I worked at VPAR. His thorough and insightful UX Research uncovered critical usability issues, resulting in significant product improvements, increased user engagement, and a better understanding of our golfers.

His ability to translate complex findings from User Testing and a UX Audit into actionable insights helped our team identify and fix these issues.

Not only that but, Michael is also a pleasure to work with: he’s collaborative, responsive, and easy to work with.

Krayon

Services: Product Discovery, User Testing, User Research and Expert Audit

Krayon is an online marketplace connecting customers with offline learning experiences. They were struggling to understand the wants and needs of their target audience. To help them gain clarity and direction, I was brought in to conduct a comprehensive study of the platform, customers and teachers.

The expert audit of the Krayon website on desktop and mobile revealed usability issues and potential areas for improvement. I then conducted user testing and research with customers, gathering insights into their past experiences and perspectives on attending workshops. Interviews with teachers gave valuable insight into the challenges and opportunities in the market.

With the findings from these research methods, I presented recommendations and solutions to Krayon on how to improve their offerings and better meet the needs of their target audience. This led to Krayon having a clear, focused target market, allowing them to concentrate on delivering a top-quality solution before expanding into other segments.

I can sometimes find it hard to focus on solving one issue at a time, and Michael brought a welcome and much needed structure to working through the issues at hand. He methodically worked through a series of exercises that resulted in clear, actionable next steps. It was a very rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Burgogi

Services: Expert Audit

Burgogi is a premium Korean meal kit service based in London, which brings the vibrant flavours of Korean street food right to your door. Burgogi empowers customers to savour the authentic tastes of Korea right in their own kitchens, by delivering quality, non-perishable ingredient kits nationwide in the UK.

I conducted a comprehensive expert audit and heuristic analysis of the Burgogi website to assess the user experience. Through rigorous testing of the user flow and careful examination of crucial usability issues, I was able to uncover valuable insights into the customer journey and provide solutions to address them.

I presented Will and the team at Burgogi with a prioritised report of my findings outlining the most important improvements to make. From streamlining the purchasing process to enhancing overall user satisfaction, my recommendations helped Burgogi to not only improve their digital presence, but also expand their business reach and drive their success forward.
